HEALTH BENEFITS OF AVOCADO SEED

Scientists prove that avocado seeds are effective against disease and blood cancer.

Avocados have long been touted as having several health properties and that's absolutely true. The most common fact about avocados is its weight loss properties as the fruit is widely regarded as a rich source of healthy fats containing omega 3 fatty acids. But what you may not know is that even the seeds of the fruit contain compounds highly beneficial for various diseases including cancer.
The benefits of avocado seeds are now projected as an effective alternate remedy in the treatment of AML or Myeloid leukemia.

If you've logged onto facebook in the past, you may have seen a viral video demonstrating how you can prepare the seed of an avocado for consumption. The video claims the seed is the most nutrient-dense part of the fruit, and that by drying it, chopping it up into pieces, and blending it, you are left with a powder-like substance that you can mix into smoothies or use for baking, adding an extra nutritional boost to your diet.

While there is some research about beneficial compounds in the seed, the safety of ingesting it hasn't been established, so the risks versus benefits aren't fully known.

The research on avocado seed consumption is very limited. In the studies that do exist, scientists conclude that additional research needs to be done to determine whether it's safe or beneficial to eat them. Additionally, the existing studies have focused on the potential benefits of avocado seed extracts, rather than the consumption of the seed itself, and they provide information only on lab testing, not on clinical data.

1. Research has Proven the Medicinal Benefits of Avocado Seeds.
Research at the Waterloo University and Mount Sinai Hospital in Canada have pinpointed the compounds present in avocado seeds and their properties in combating the effects of cells that cause this aggresive form of blood cancer. The compound named Avocatin B killed cancer cells while not affecting healthy cells. Among 800 natural compounds tested against the disease, avocatin B was found to be the most effective. Researchers are now planning to formulate a drug for leukemia from avocation B extract.

Avocados are a rich source of carotenoids where Californian avocados have been proven to contain 11 of them. Besides carotenoids, Avocados also contain several antioxidants, b complex vitamins, folate, vitamin C, vitamin K and of course monounsaturated fat. In fact, researchers state that avocados are a comprehensive.

2. Avocado Extract as a Treatment for Leukemia

Even as scientists are well on the drawing board for treatment of leukemia from avocatin B extracted from avocado seeds, the current methods of treatment for this fatal disease are:
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation
  • Biological therapy
  • Targeted therapy
To get the most of an avocados health properties and antioxidants, peel an avocado with your hands. Cut it around the seed. Hold either side of the fruit and twist to separate from the seed. Now cut the seed lengthwise in half and peel away the skin.

3. Avocados can Reduce Cholesterol

Because of the monounsaturated fats present in Avocados, the fruit is especially effective in reducing cholesterol like LDL or the bad cholesterol in your body. In testing the benefits of avocado seeds, research also found dense LDL particles were greatly reduced as a result of avocado consumption. Dense LDL particles are especially dangerous and cause inflammation of the arteries impeding your circulation. So just as an apple even an avocado a day can keep the doctor away!
